Castro just dropped his most direct hint EVER about the 2025 Crossfit Open

While hints and teases from Castro are nothing new, this one is unusual because of how early he’s revealing it.

In his Weekend Review video posted on January 27, 2024, Castro stated, “This last year we did not have a repeat in the Open. The year before they did, the year before that I do not think we did. So we kind of go back and forth with if we’re going to have a repeat this year. We will have a repeat in the Open.”

This time, however, he’s given athletes an extra opportunity to prepare for a test that has already been programmed in past years.

Given Castro’s history, the repeat could be a workout that tests both skill and engine—one that allows competitors to measure progress over the years. Athletes now have the chance to dig into past Open workouts and start preparing for what might return.

A New Approach to Open Hints

Castro’s teasers have long been a staple of CrossFit lore, with cryptic social media posts keeping the community engaged. But this year’s early reveal is new territory. It could indicate a strategic shift in how the Open is marketed—possibly to drive more participation or to add another layer of excitement.

The CrossFit Open, set to begin in February, is the first stage of competition that leads to the CrossFit Games. It’s a chance for athletes of all levels to test their fitness against the global community. With Castro’s confirmation of a repeat workout, the speculation has already begun. Which workout will it be? And more importantly—are you ready for it?
